Photographs and essays by John Collins, based in Kinsale, County Cork.

Photographs and writing, made together. Most of it comes from within a few miles of Kinsale, above the water and below it, though the last few years have taken as much film on land as underwater — quarries, abandoned industry, the Shannon. Coral reefs since 1988, and not finished with them.

Nothing arrives on a schedule. Pieces are sent when there is something worth sending: a photographic sequence, an essay, a return to an older image.

Forty years diving and photographing, and writing about it for most of them. Four books, most recently Kinsale: Light and Time (Atrium, 2023). Also a community pharmacist in the town, which is how the photography stayed unhurried.
